The Secrets of Midwives is everything that Women's Fiction should be. Poignant and heart-warming, it gives a tender glimpse into the lives of three generations of midwives -- three amazingly strong women, each with her own secrets. In the world of modern medicine where home births are often looked down upon by the general population and especially by medical practitioners; Floss, Grace, and Neva offer a kind of personal care to their patients that can sometimes cross lines legally. |
As the story unfolds and moments from the ladies' pasts come to light, some important life lessons are learned -- not just by the ladies themselves, but by those closest to them. ★★★★

As you are reading, if you think you know what will happen next... think again. The plot is full of surprising twists and turns that will keep you wondering until the very end. Despite a few grammatical/typographical errors that are to be expected from any self-published novel, Where No Lilies Grow is well-written with a unique story line. The plot transitions smoothly from one scenario to the next, and the Southern dialect and phrasing spoken by the characters definitely lends the novel a charming authenticity. I found Mr. Taylor's debut novel a pleasure to read and would gladly recommend it.
The dialect and cadence of the written words practically beg to be read aloud. The Messenger of Magnolia Street is a story of faith and hope, good versus evil, redemption and remembrance so poignant that it seems as if it truly was brought to us on the wings of angels. My only regret is that it sat unread on my bookshelf for so long. ★★★★★
Despite feeling spread precariously thin, Anita continues her work with Animators, Inc. She is also constantly called in to assist with cases in her capacity as a US Marshal. The cases she is called in on this time are unlike anything she has ever witnessed before, and they are a true test of her strength in many ways. Her personal resolve is also tested as relationships with her guards and her partners force her to make decisions that she doesn't want to face. This series remains one of my favorite, and I cannot wait until the next book release! ★★★★★
Secrets abound in the small coastal town, and Claire faces present day threats as she and Luke look for answers to their pasts. After having read and enjoyed both the Hope Beach series as well as the Rock Harbor series by Colleen Coble, I had high hopes for this book. The Inn at Ocean's Edge is the first book in the new Sunset Cove series, and I am pleased to state that it does not disappoint. I would highly recommend it! ★★★★★
Torn between family ties, Mob business, and the slight chance of finding his own happily-ever-after ending, Liam's first order of business is just to stay alive. This is a romance with a definite twist. The unique plot will keep you on the edge of your seat, and not just because of the steamy encounters of the carnal kind! ★★★★

There were portions of the story that read a bit slower than others. Occasionally I found myself lost in the details, and I would have to go back and re-read the last couple of paragraphs to be sure I had characters identified properly or to confirm to which character a dialogue was pertaining. In my opinion, this in no way detracted from the story. The details given turned out to be necessary ones, as later in the plot there were several "ah ha!" moments of clarity. Another positive that I would like to point out is the historical accuracy (based on my personal knowledge -- I did not research facts in depth) of the time period. As a fan of historical fiction, I was impressed with many of the details presented which helped to more clearly define the lives of Jenny, Robert, Martin, and their families as they transitioned through the decades.
When I reached the last page of the novel (keeping in mind that I read the e-book format), I kept flicking my screen in an attempt to turn to the next page. There wasn't one! The story comes to a rather abrupt ending. At first I was stunned. I needed more! However, after a moment of reflection, I realized that it really could not have ended differently. I thoroughly enjoyed Unwanted Truths and would be delighted to recommend it. ★★★★
There is a certain naivety in Mariah's concept of her marriage -- at least up until the point where she walks in and catches Colin with another woman. Then her world comes crashing down, and the reader can almost feel the depressing downward spiral. In the same manner, the reader can identify Faith's childlike innocence and easy acceptance of the things her "friend" tells her. When Ian enters the picture, Mariah's inner debate regarding whether or not he is trustworthy becomes tangible as well. While some portions of the story could be predicted a few chapters in advance, there were many surprising twists. I would definitely recommend this book to others! ★★★★★
